Before design starts
What is different here.
Belmont is the town where hardscape and irrigation, not only tree work, can need a tree permit. Removal is defined to include severely damaging a tree, and severe damage names trenching, excavating, grading and paving that intrudes on the root zone or canopy dripline, along with topping, excessive pruning and even overwatering, so a patio edge or a new valve run near a protected tree sits inside the ordinance. The protected set is wide. Coast live oak, valley oak, redwood, madrone, bay laurel and buckeye count from ten inches across measured four and a half feet up, and any species at all counts from fourteen. Multi-stemmed trees are measured by adding the three largest stems, which reaches the line at ten inches for those six natives and eighteen for everything else. The dripline used throughout is the canopy or the trunk diameter in inches multiplied by two feet, whichever is larger, which is usually wider than the shade on the ground suggests.
The same everywhere
How a job runs.
Design, build and maintenance are one company here, so the drawing is made by people who will have to build it and the garden is looked after by people who know why it was built that way. See how we take a project from first visit to finished garden.
Belmont is one of the towns we work in most, so no travel charge applies. We also work well beyond these towns, with a $100 travel charge once, on the first visit, outside the towns listed.
Let's talk about your garden.
For a new design or garden project, the consultation is $175 and covers the first hour on the property. If the visit runs past the hour, we agree the extra time with you first. For ongoing care, the maintenance walk is $75 so we can see the garden and price the work.
Visits are prepaid. Neither fee is credited toward later work.
