What is different here.
Redwood City is where the yard is, and its tree rule is the one most often measured wrongly. A tree is protected once its trunk reaches thirty-eight inches around, roughly twelve inches across, and the measurement is taken anywhere between six and thirty-six inches above the ground rather than at the four and a half feet almost every neighbouring town uses. A low flare or a heavy base therefore brings a tree inside the ordinance here that would sit outside it a mile away. The permit is issued by the Parks and Recreation Director rather than by planning, so a tree question and a plan question go to different counters. A protected tree damaged without a permit has to be restored, or, where it cannot be, replaced within a year with a tree matched for size and species.

Redwood City is one of the towns we work in most, so no travel charge applies. We also work well beyond these towns, with a $100 travel charge once, on the first visit, outside the towns listed.

For a new design or garden project, the consultation is $175 and covers the first hour on the property. If the visit runs past the hour, we agree the extra time with you first. For ongoing care, the maintenance walk is $75 so we can see the garden and price the work.
Visits are prepaid. Neither fee is credited toward later work.
