What is different here.
San Carlos is the town where the tree rules, rather than the water rules, are the thing to check first. Its protected tree ordinance was rewritten in 2022, and a permit is required to prune a protected tree, not only to remove one, which catches out work that would be routine maintenance anywhere else. A significant tree is any tree eleven inches in diameter measured at fifty-four inches above natural grade, redwoods are protected from fifteen inches at the same height, and the city arborist decides the application rather than a planner. Pruning permits carry a neighbour notice period of fourteen days, so a crew date has to be planned around the notice rather than the other way round.

San Carlos is one of the towns we work in most, so no travel charge applies. We also work well beyond these towns, with a $100 travel charge once, on the first visit, outside the towns listed.
Let's talk about your garden.
For a new design or garden project, the consultation is $175 and covers the first hour on the property. If the visit runs past the hour, we agree the extra time with you first. For ongoing care, the maintenance walk is $75 so we can see the garden and price the work.
Visits are prepaid. Neither fee is credited toward later work.
